Easter Holiday Detox Guide
Share
Easter was fun… until you realised you’ve basically survived on hot cross buns, chocolate eggs and a little too much wine.
If you are feeling sluggish, bloated, tired and like your liver is personally offended by your life choices… this is for you.
Start with hydration first
Your body needs fluids before anything else.
• Water with lemon to help kickstart digestion and support the liver
• Coconut water to replace potassium and magnesium lost from alcohol, sugar and salty foods
• Bone broth for easy-to-digest protein and electrolytes if your stomach is feeling a little fragile.
Tea can be your best friend right now.
• Ginger tea helps reduce inflammation, stimulates bile flow and supports digestion
• Holy basil tea helps the body cope with stress, lowers inflammation and supports liver function
• Green tea is rich in antioxidants to help the liver process toxins and reduce oxidative stress.
Rebuild the nutrients your body is craving
• Leafy greens like spinach and kale for folate, B vitamins and chlorophyll
• Eggs for B vitamins and liver-supporting nutrients
• Salmon or fatty fish for omega-3s to reduce inflammation
• Brazil nuts for selenium to support detoxification enzymes
Support blood sugar and your liver
• Broccoli and cauliflower contain sulfur compounds that help the liver flush out waste
• Berries provide antioxidants that protect liver cells
• Oats and quinoa provide steady energy and fibre
• Bananas and avocados help reduce bloating thanks to their potassium content
Simple detox smoothie recipe
• 1 cup unsweetened coconut water
• 1 handful fresh spinach
• 1 tsp chlorella powder
• 1/2 inch fresh ginger
• 1/2 frozen banana or 1/4 avocado
• 1/2 cup frozen pineapple or blueberries
• Squeeze of fresh lemon or lime
Blend until smooth and drink immediately.
Why this smoothie works
• Chlorella may help lower blood alcohol levels and reduce symptoms like rapid heartbeat after drinking
• Avocado helps slow sugar absorption and prevent the post-chocolate crash
• Ginger, lemon and chlorella all support liver detoxification pathways
Little note: if you are new to chlorella, start with 1/2 teaspoon first so your digestive system can adjust gently.
Remember lovely, you do not need punishment, restriction or a crazy cleanse after Easter.
Your body just needs nourishment, hydration and a little extra support.
And lastly… Be kind to yourself.
