Seed Cycling for Hormonal Health

Seed Cycling for Hormonal Health

Seed cycling is a simple and nourishing practice that can support women through many stages of hormonal life — from a regular menstrual cycle to the transitions of perimenopause, menopause and beyond.

Seed cycling is a simple, natural practice that uses specific seeds to support your body through the different phases of your menstrual cycle.

It works by rotating certain seeds at different times of the month to gently nourish and support your hormones.

How to Seed Cycle

During the first half of your cycle, from days 1 to 14, flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds are commonly used. These seeds contain nutrients and plant compounds that can help support healthy oestrogen levels and provide important fibre and minerals.

During the second half of your cycle from day 15 to the first day of menstruation , sesame seeds and sunflower seeds are used. These seeds are rich in nutrients like zinc and selenium, which may help support progesterone production and overall hormone balance.

How to Seed Cycle

  • Grind up seeds with a coffee grinder.
  • Mix together ground seeds.
  • Add two tablespoons of seed mix to yogurt, smoothies etc each day. Store ground seeds in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.
  • For irregular cycles or those no longer experiencing cycles you can follow the lunar calendar. New moon to full moon, pumpkin seeds + flaxseeds. Full moon to new moon, sesame seeds + sunflower seeds

Normal, Irregular or Challenging Cycles

Seed cycling can gently support the natural rhythm of your hormones. The seeds provide fibre, essential fatty acids and key minerals that help the body metabolise oestrogen, support progesterone production and promote a more balanced cycle. Many women find it can help with symptoms such as PMS, mood changes, breast tenderness and irregular cycles.

Perimenopause

Perimenopause is a time when hormones can fluctuate quite dramatically. Seed cycling offers gentle nutritional support during this transition. The combination of seeds provides nutrients such as zinc, selenium and lignans that may help support hormone regulation, reduce inflammation and support the body as it navigates changing oestrogen and progesterone levels. Some women notice improvements in symptoms like mood swings, irregular cycles and hormonal skin changes.

Menopause

Even once the menstrual cycle has stopped, seed cycling can still be beneficial. The seeds are rich in healthy fats, fibre and phytoestrogens that may help support overall hormone balance and metabolic health. They can also support heart health, digestive health and stable energy levels during this stage of life.

Beyond Menopause

The Benfits don’t stop once hormones settle into their new rhythm. Continuing to include these nutrient-dense seeds in your diet supports long-term wellbeing. They provide important minerals for bone health, healthy fats for brain and heart health, and fibre for gut health — all essential foundations for thriving in the years beyond menopause.

Sometimes the most powerful support for our bodies comes from the simplest things in nature. Seeds may be small, but they hold incredible potential to nourish, support and sustain us through every stage of womanhood.
